Press release -

The NAVC’s ‘Retriever’ Changes the Game for Veterinary Human Resources in North America with guavaVet’s Recruitment Software

The North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) announced the launch of a new recruitment platform, Retriever, which is powered by guavaVet software, developed by Veterinarian Aubrey Kumm. The job-candidate matching technology aims to transform recruitment and job search in North America by providing real-time updates, linking employers and candidates directly.

The NAVC announced an introductory offer for all U.S. veterinary clinics and businesses: unlimited, FREE vacancy posting through the end of the year with discount code: YU2V7V at NAVC.com/Retriever.

Upon launch, the Retriever app will be free to use for job seekers and will immediately begin matching jobs with the most highly qualified candidates. They will simply create a profile and receive a notification when a job appears that matches their requirements. Pressing the apply button will directly connect the applicant with the veterinary practice.

“At the NAVC, we strive to find new ways to support veterinary professionals on their career paths and better connect them with one another within our passionate community,“ NAVC CEO Tom Bohn, MBA, CAE, HAB-C said. “Retriever was designed to do just that; to save practices and professionals time and money with guavaVet’s algorithm that matches jobs with highly-targeted candidates and directly connects them.”

Research in the UK found that 19 percent of small animal practices looking to fill a vacancy withdrew the role due to lack of applicants, and two thirds of practices took more than three months to fill their vacancies for veterinary surgeons.*

Retriever addresses the challenging nature of connecting candidates to the right jobs, at the right time, in their desired locations.

Veterinarian, Neuroscientist and Founder of guavaVet Aubrey Kumm says he is delighted that the NAVC is using the technology, “If you think about job seekers in the veterinary world, they can have very different needs. Some will be willing to travel globally, some will be searching in a small local area, perhaps due to family commitments. There is an increase in the number of veterinarians doing locum work and searching for new positions frequently, and others who want to work around creative projects or travel. It’s a very different environment that requires a very different approach. The ‘gig’ economy is not disappearing any time soon. I congratulate the NAVC on their far-sighted approach which recognises those differences.”

Professionals in posts at all levels of veterinary practice are also now using guavaVet technology in South Africa, the UK and Australia. To learn more about the benefits of guavaVet, please visit guavaVet.com, Google Play or the App Store.

About guavaVet

guavaVet was established by veterinary surgeon Aubrey Kumm in 2017. His inspiration for a veterinary recruitment and job search app came while studying for his MSc in Neuroscience in South Africa where his thesis was focused on using an iPhone app to detect Autism Spectrum Disorder in low-income settings. He developed the guavaVet app alongside studying for his MSc – which he subsequently passed with Distinction in 2018. He now spends much of his time travelling around the world discussing how technology can meet veterinary needs and introducing guavaVet to new audiences. The platform aims to match the needs of practices and veterinary professionals, saving everyone involved time and money and helping people to find the best fit for/ with the job role. It is currently in active use in the UK, South Africa and Australia. The North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) launched its own platform, Retriever, using guavaVet software in October 2018.
