​We love the UK! Over quarter of Brits will staycation in a caravan this year

More than half the nation intend to staycation this year The Express newspaper recently reported, with 57% of Brits holidaying in the UK this year, and giving our economy an estimated £31bn boost.

With this in mind, caravan insurance specialist Cover4Caravans.co.uk has carried out the second of its own annual independent research* on staycation accommodation trends.

It found that 62% of Brits plan to enjoy a staycation this year, with caravanning being the third most popular choice of accommodation type.

The study also revealed that of the staycationers …

• 34% plan to stay in a hotel
• 27% will go camping / caravanning
• 23% will stay in a rented cottage / accommodation
• 14% will stay in a B&B / guest house
• 2% will stay with family.

With over a quarter of respondents saying they plan on going camping / caravanning, we asked for the main reasons why they enjoy caravanning ...

• 71% said that they are great for kids
• 52% also said there is no airport hassle nor costs
• 48% said the cost
• the freedom of the open road also accounted for 48%
• 23% said there are fewer worries over terrorism.
  

Richard Burgess, Director at Cover4Caravans, says: "We carried out this same survey last year and, surprisingly, there are some big differences. We have seen a surge in the number of people intending to go caravanning – up from 12% last year to 27% this year.

“Also, the cost is no longer the key factor that influences the choice of holiday, with 71% saying caravanning is great for kids - up 21% on last year.

"The biggest change we saw year-on-year, however, is the number of people concerned about terrorism – up from 6% to 23%.”
