Holidays back on the up for 2017

Holidays seem to be back on the up for 2017, a sign perhaps that consumer spending confidence is returning.

elephant’s latest tracking research which looks at relative big ticket spending plans for the six months ahead reveals that spending on a big summer holiday has over-taken DIY and home renovations as the top planned activity for the first half of 2017.

Returning to the top five is a spending spree at the shops – twice as popular with women than men, whose minds are more fixed on tech items and gadgets.

When it comes to buying a new or next house, London came top: Home buying was twice as popular in London that was the case in the Midlands - and four times more likely than in the North.

Overall more than 60% of adults had big spending plans on something between January and June 2017.
