Feeling hot hot hot – or cold cold cold – with ellenor in 2016

ellenor is offering supporters the opportunity to face the challenge of braving either hot coals or icy waters over the next couple of months – while raising money to support families facing terminal illness.

On Saturday 6 February, the charity is once again holding its popular Chilli Dip outside swim at St Julian’s Club in Sevenoaks. While, for supporters who would rather do something a little less chilly, they can sign up for ellenor’s Firewalk at Maidstone Football Club on Sunday 20 March.

ellenor Ambassador, Gill Chadbon, is taking part in the Chilli Dip for the third year running and this year she is pledging to do it in a bikini!

“I do the Chilli Dip because I feel it’s pain for just a short time – not like the huge amount of suffering that families experiencing the loss of a child face,” says Gill. “As an Ambassador for ellenor, I feel it’s important to get involved as much as I can, plus swimming is my passion.”

Chilli Dippers simply need to brave the chilly unheated water of the outside pool at St Julian’s. Last year, some dippers hopped straight out again, while others – including a team from Sevenoaks Water Polo Club spent a fair time practicing their sport. Like last year, all dippers will be rewarded with a steaming bowl of chilli!

For supporters who fancy something a little warmer, there’s an opportunity to sign up for ellenor’s Firewalk at Maidstone Football Club – which offers the challenge of walking over hot coals.

As a charity, not part of the NHS, ellenor needs to raise over £6.7 million each year to provide its round the clock care for families facing terminal illness. This includes providing medical treatments such as chemotherapy in the home for children, which prevents lengthy or stressful stays in hospital and means families can stay together.

“We have a variety of different challenges available during 2016 for our supporters,” says Hayley Brown, Events Manager at ellenor. “What is a challenge for one person isn’t such a challenge for another – so we hope there really is something for everyone in our programme. Aside from the Chilli Dip and Firewalk, we can offer lots of more standard challenges – such as runs and cycle rides.”
