Fond memories of Sir Terry Wogan

We were saddened to wake up to the news about Sir Terry Wogan yesterday. At ellenor, we were honoured to have a private meeting with Sir Terry a few years ago, when he was doing a book signing at Bluewater and, for our team, it was a chance to thank him personally for his support of ellenor through his work with Children in Need.

Sir Terry met with Georgie, an ellenor patient (right) and Counsellor Sue Wharton (left) whose post at the time was generously funded by Children in Need.

Our Head of Community, Linda Trew, also met Sir Terry and remembers what a friendly and warm gentleman he was. She also revealed how delighted he was when she presented him with a mug, hand-painted by one of our young patients, after hearing that his had been broken whilst on air!

When next on air, Sir Terry kindly mentioned meeting with Georgie, her Mum and staff from ellenor and how he was now using his prized new mug!

It is reported that Sir Terry died at home, surrounded by his family. At ellenor we provide 90% of our care in patients’ homes and if patients ask to be at home at the end of their life, we will do everything we can to facilitate this.

Our thoughts at this time are with Sir Terry’s family and friends. He really was a national treasure and will be greatly missed.
