local college students volunteer for a day to help recruit walkers for ellenor Twilight Walk

A team of two Teachers and eight students from Dartford Science & Technology College (pictured above), joined with ellenor staff as part of a volunteering day organised by the college on Thursday 23 July, to distribute fliers in Gravesend town centre to local residents and shoppers, to recruit walkers for the charity's annual sponsored Twilight Walk .

The Volunteering day was organised by Teachers at the college with the aim of having the entire college, students and staff, out in Dartford and the surrounding areas volunteering for one day.

The Twilight Walk, which for the second year will be held at it’s new venue of the Cyclopark, Gravesend, saw record numbers taking on the challenge last year, and the students were keen to recruit even more fundraising walkers for a choice of two distances of 8km or 12km.

Hayley Brown, Events Manager at ellenor said “We are really keen to build on the great success of last year’s Twilight Walk, which saw hundreds of people walking the streets of Gravesend to raise money for local families facing terminal illness. We are so thankful to the students and teachers at Dartford Science & Technology College for all their help in recruiting new walkers and for raising awareness of the event.”

Over 1,000 fliers were handed out on the day by the team, who were highly visible in the bright orange Twilight Walk T-shirts which will be given to each registered walker as a memento of the day.

Hayley said “As a charity, we are reliant on the generosity of our local community, and so much of what we achieve is only possible because people volunteer their time. Time is something we all have, and the fantastic students and teachers show how volunteering even just for just a day, can have such a big impact.”
