Sainsbury’s in Crayford raises more than £7000 for ellenor

The Sainsbury’s store in Crayford recently presented ellenor with a cheque for £7365.11 – raised from supporting the hospice charity for the past 12 months. The charity was chosen by the store following a staff nomination, a pitch from Katharine Mobey, Premium Partnerships Manager at ellenor and, finally, a vote by the store’s charity committee.

The figure raised could pay for more than two months’ of home cooked meals for patients at ellenor Gravesend or six months of fuel to keep the charity’s adult care team on the road, visiting families out in the community – in their homes and in care homes.

“The care which ellenor provides touches both our customers and our staff – so we are delighted to have raised these funds for the charity,” says Terry McGinty, Store Manager in Crayford. “We’d like to thank both our staff and our customers for all their support for our fundraising efforts over the past 12 months.”

The supermarket raised funds for ellenor in a number of ways, including bucket collections and having a collection pot on each of the tills, while a number of the staff took part in last year’s Twilight Walk.

The store also held two ‘shop days’. Ahead of these special days, staff collected new and nearly new items from staff and customers. They were then allocated some space in ellenor’s shop in Crayford on two days and Sainsbury’s staff sold the donated items, raising money for the charity.

In addition to raising money, the store also kindly donated raffle prizes to ellenor, including boxes of chocolates and biscuits.

“We are so grateful to all the staff and customers at Sainsbury’s in Crayford for raising such a fantastic amount of money for us,” says Katherine Mobey, from ellenor. “Demand for our services is growing all the time, which means that we need more funds to keep giving our vital support to families facing terminal illness across this area. We currently support around 2000 families a year and receive between 200 and 300 referrals each month.”
