ECB commissions external review into Glamorgan payment

The England and Wales Cricket Board today commissioned an external review of the process leading to the recent payment to Glamorgan County Cricket Club.

All Members – including the Chairmen of the 18 First Class Counties and MCC who met earlier this week – have been informed and terms of reference have been provided to Good Governance Institute [GGI].

Confirming the external review, ECB Chairman Colin Graves said:

“Following the ECB’s meeting with the Chairmen of the First Class Counties and MCC on Monday we have taken time to reflect on this, as a Board.

“The Board agree that it will be valuable to have an external review into the process around the payment.

“I recognise there have been questions raised and, whilst answers have been provided, we are determined that the process is fully reviewed.”

As detailed in Glamorgan’s recent financial statements, the club relinquished the right to apply for Test matches during the 2020 to 2024 period in return for a compensation payment of £2.5 million.

It was agreed that should they wish to apply to host Test match cricket in the future, the club will repay this sum on terms to be agreed with the ECB.
