Crew change vessel adapted to suit the market

ESVAGT’s next crew change vessel will be trimmed to meet the need for savings.

ESVAGT’s coming crew change vessel will remain the same length and, with its 88.4 metres, be the longest in the fleet. But from there on, the vessel has been slimmed down and trimmed to align with the economic reality that currently marks the global offshore market.

“We have chosen to make savings in areas where it is possible to go down a gear without compromising on the key performance we seek,” says Kristian Ole Jakobsen, Chief Operating Officer for ESVAGT.

Several elements have either been substituted with less costly choices or postponed for retrofit – for example the “hull vane fin”, which will increase comfort and is expected to contribute to a reduction in fuel consumption:

“Among other things, we have made savings on some of the more innovative elements that we had planned to mount on the vessels to learn more about how they could help – for example, a battery system with an extra feature suited to the DC concept. We can retrofit should the opportunity arise and market allow but for now it is essential that we respect the cost focus that is utmost critical in our business area,” says Kristian Ole Jakobsen.

The changes mean that the crew change vessel will be delivered later than the 1st of June 2017 as originally planned. The vessel is being built at the Zamakona Shipyard in Bilbao.
