Defined sense of team at ESVAGT

My first 100 days – Martin Ørbæk Nielsen, Senior Strategic Procurement Manager

‘I was proud from the first day I joined ESVAGT and I sense that I have many colleagues that feel just the same. We work for a well-known shipping company and we save lives. Our work has purpose. You can feel that this is something that matters to people. If you ask a colleague about their work, it’s hard to stop them talking again!’

‘Over the first few months, I had stacks of supplier agreements that were due for renewal at the end of the year. It was a demanding task, and with lots of suppliers come lots of agreements that need continual reviewing. I need to negotiate the most favourable conditions with our suppliers and at the same time, ensure that the resulting agreement is practicable for our colleagues that need to work with the contract. It is no good optimising on price if it brings drawbacks for my colleagues, so I need to be part of the team to be able to contribute positively. Here at ESVAGT, everybody is really good at making new colleagues feel welcome and part of the company. There is a really defined sense of being a team, which you can see when you look at how we sit in the canteen. The tables fill up as people arrive – departments don’t just sit together and talk about the same things.’

‘ESVAGT is an entirely new branch for me and there has been – and continues to be – a great deal to learn. There is also potential in improving the terms and conditions we have. The shipping company has been focused on cost reduction and optimising terms and conditions, and that is a road which I will continue to follow.’
