Exodus launches UK walking weekends

New series of walking weekends and day walks across the UK including special TrekPrep itineraries for walkers heading to Everest and Kilimanjaro

Having trekked the far corners of the world, Exodus has launched a series of walking weekends and day walks right here in the UK. These trips will visit some of the UK’s finest walking spots, such as the Peak District and Snowdonia, to less well-trodden routes in the Cambrian Mountains and Goring-on-Thames. These varied itineraries offer walkers the chance to leave their maps at home and test their fitness levels with local guides on home turf.

Walkers preparing for a strenuous trip to Everest Base Camp or Kilimanjaro can ramp up their training programmes on a specially designed TrekPrep weekend. These new three-day itineraries in the Brecon Beacons help boost strength and stamina, essential for any hikers considering tackling either of these famously taxing treks. As well as offering insight, safety advice and support to prospective trekkers, these weekends aim to give walkers a taste of the energy required when attempting Everest and Kilimanjaro.

Here is a selection of Exodus’ new walking weekends and day walks:

Kilimanjaro Trek Prep weekend  This three day preparation trek in the Brecon Beacons is designed to help walkers prepare to trek Kilimanjaro with Exodus. This tough itinerary includes a trek to the top of Pen y Fan, south UK’s highest peak, as well as opportunities to speak with Exodus trekking experts along the way, who will give walkers insight and knowledge about fitness, altitude, clothing and equipment. The stunning landscape of the Brecon Beacons and a supportive group dynamic will emulate the immense undertaking of climbing Kilimanjaro. Priced at £229 per person for three days including accommodation and most meals. Takes place 2 –4 August and 1 – 3 November 2013.

Peak District Walking Weekend This varied walking weekend will take in the major highlights of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. Walkers will be accompanied by an experienced trekking guide on this trek from Kinder Scout, the highest grindstone in the Dark Peak, to Mam Tor, near the top of Winnatts Pass. A steady pace will allow walkers plenty of time to admire the stunning flora and fauna, steep-sided limestone dales and dramatic high moorlands. Priced at £229 per person for three days including accommodation and most meals. Takes place on 10-12 August 2013.

Trek the Cambrian Mountains This weekend trek offers two varied days of walking in the Cambrian Mountains in Wales. Located in a wild and empty plateau nestled between Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons National Parks, the Cambrian Mountains offer a remote and enchanting trekking experience. This moderately challenging itinerary takes in the lakes and hidden valleys of the region, offering spectacular scenery along the way. Priced at £229 per person for three days including accommodation and most meals. Takes place on 13 – 15 July 2013.

Goring –Streatley Circular Walk This leisurely day walk in Oxfordshire takes a path from a riverside village through National Trust land towards a challengingly steep hill and views of unspoilt countryside. Descending a few miles to flat farmland, walkers will head back up a gentler hill to the beautiful forest above Thurle Down, ending up at the Beetle and Wedge Boathouse restaurant for a delicious lunch. The return follows the enjoyable (and flat) Thames path. Priced at £43.50 per person for one day including lunch. Takes place on 25 May.

Long Man and the Sea via the village of Jevington This moderately strenuous day walk follows a classic route along the South Downs Way, taking in the rolling hills of southern England and their picturesque views, including the mysterious Long Man of Wilmington. Walkers will enjoy a cosy pub lunch in the village of Jevington before ending the walk with breath-taking sea views. Priced at £39 per person for one day including lunch. Takes place on 23 June.
