Media Weekly - Cameron Carrn't letter us see the sun

The Prime Minister has been flying the flag for Blighty at the G20 summit this week. The Post Office can take comfort from the fact that if the President of Argentina had used their Special Delivery service to send a letter to Cameron regarding the Falklands Islands, it would have arrived and had to be signed for. Instead when she resorted to old fashioned in-person delivery, Dave refused.

Cameron faced (or had his back to) more problems in sunny Mexico when his staffers tried to hide that a press interview was taking place with a beach in the background. To be fair to No.10, they were probably just trying to make the rest of us feel better about the UK weather (no, we can’t go a week without mentioning the weather).

And more problems for Dave while he was on holiday (sorry, at an important global financial summit) when he was confronted with news of comedian, Jimmy Carr’s tax evasion.  While he found Jimmy’s actions “morally wrong”, he wouldn’t be drawn on Conservative donor, Gary Barlow’s tax arrangements.  We’re all in it together, eh, Dave?

Yesterday saw doctors on a (non) strike over pensions.  In the end only 11,500 stayed at home, while more than 90% “put their patients first”.  Although that didn’t stop the cancellation of almost 3,000 operations and over 18,500 consultations.  What will this do to the Government’s guidelines on waiting times?

But let us not forget the really important news – there is a football tournament on this week, you know.  While it was surprising to find out that Nicklas Bendtner’s pants cost £80,000, it was perhaps more shocking to then see that this was £64k more than the cost of Porto fans’ racist abuse of Mario Balotelli last year. Tonight Greece face Germany in tonight’s Euro 2012 quarter-final.  Cue comparisons between tonight’s match and the Euro crisis.  This will be the true Euro stress test.

Tweet of the week: @ arghya_rc in response to yesterday’s Twitter crash: OMG..twitter was down....closest thing to living without oxygen for most of us....
