Food service sector still needs more knowledge when providing for the food allergy customer

Food Allergy Aware's Kickstarter campaign goes live!

Food Allergy Aware have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the cost of giving away 1000 FREE copies of their Food Allergy Awareness induction booklet to be used by those in Food Service industry as a reference when managing the food allergy, coeliac and food intolerant customer.

The induction booklet is relevant for ALL food service business from takeaways, schools, hospitals to hotels. Food Allergy Aware is asking for the allergy community and the food service industry to support the campaign. Click here to view a mock up copy of the booklet which has over 60 pages of clear information and facts.

Covering four fundamental areas the booklet additionally gives a further understanding on how to communicate in a positive way to ensure the FreeFrom customer understands what is and is NOT possible within their business.

  • Allergens and the law
  • Working safely with allergens
  • Cross contamination risks and hazards
  • The dangers of allergens

We have been fortunate to secure funding to produce the booklet, we now however, need further funds to print 1000 copies to give away FREE to food service business as samples to ensure their staff have the basic knowledge to serve the food allergy, coeliac and food intolerant customer.

Food Allergy Awareness in Food Businesses

We still need to be aware that many people who have a food allergy, coeliac disease or food intolerance are still experiencing quite often a negative customer service or have possibly been miss-informed or made ill due to a lack of accurate training on food allergy awareness. Unfortunately, a large proportion of organisations are very slow to adopt a food allergy policy and both SME's and chains within the food service sector struggle with funding  for this type of training which is not essential for their staff. Many are opting for basic eLearning, some of which we have found for food allergy’s, is more about compliance and disclaimers rather than covering how to communicate positively about their processes.  Some do not even cover coeliac disease!

We believe that our booklet is an ideal way for businesses to train their staff either on a 1:1 basis or through independent learning. There are interactive exercise's and quiz’s throughout and a final test to summarize their learning, The booklet is then retained as a permanent reminder for staff to refer back on.

Our target to raise £2,500 will enable us to print out 1000 copies which we will distribute FREE to SME's with the food service sector.

We are passionate about caterers being more aware of their responsibilities when providing for the freefrom customer and if we can get this booklet into outlets which may not otherwise train their staff it would be simply amazing!

In addition if you would like to sponsor the booklet and have a full page advert promoting your business please contact Food Allergy Aware - consultancy@fatc.co.uk

If we can prevent one needless death your support will have had a greater value than you may ever know.
