On Saturday 18 April at 7:30 pm, the Swedish chamber orchestra O/MODƏRNT will make its London debut at Kings Place.

The O/Modernt chamber orchestra has developed during recent years under the direction of violinist Hugo Ticciati as an integral part of the Swedish festival O/Modernt. Translated from Swedish as “Un/Modern”, the festival’s name refers to its underlying concept, a reinvention of the past by exploring the relationships between the works of old composers and the artistic and intellectual creations of modern culture.

For the orchestra's debut in London, the art of repetition in sound will be the guiding theme. Not only will the orchestra perform hallmark works of 20th-century minimalism by Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass and Erkki-Sven Tüür, it will also perform an arrangement of the first work of four-part polyphony from the 13th-century (which will include singing) and improvise as an ensemble.

Hugo Ticciati says: "It's truly a joy to work with such a fantastic group of young and enthusiastic musicians. The open and innovative atmosphere of Kings Place is the ideal platform for the orchestra's London debut."

The minimalist programme promises to create a contemplative evening with a fair share of novel experimentation. Joining the orchestra for Arvo Pärt's iconic Tabula Rasa is the much-loved violinist Thomas Gould, famous for his 6-stringed electric violin.
