Totton man jailed following bottle assault

A man has been jailed after admitting assaulting a man by hitting him over the head with glass bottles.

Bradie Mark Shkensberg, 27, of Salisbury Road, Totton, had pleaded guilty to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, assault by beating and kidnap on the first day of a trial.

Today (Monday 17 June), he returned to Southampton Crown Court for sentence and was jailed for ten years, with an extended period of licence of five years.

The offences took place on the night of December 14, 2018, at a house in Ashurst, the court heard.

During the course of the evening, Shkensberg assaulted a 29-year-old man he knew by hitting him on the head with three glass bottles and biting him.

The victim later attending hospital for treatment to cuts and bruises to his head and arms.

Shkensberg also assaulted a 29-year-old woman by grabbing her by the arms, before leaving the house.

The court heard Shkensberg then entered a car parked in the village and forced the driver to take him to Totton.

During the journey, Shkensberg demanded the victim hand over his phone, which he did.

The matter was then reported to the police.

Speaking after the hearing, Detective Constable Marie Harding said: “Shkensberg’s unprovoked violence on that night directly impacted on three people, as well as having an effect on others who witnessed what he did. His actions could have led to more serious consequences.

“I hope that today’s sentence gives some degree of closure and reassurance to the victims so they can now move on with their lives.”
