Two arrested following ATM theft in Alton

We are investigating after a burglary in which cash was stolen from an ATM machine at the HSBC branch in High Street, Alton.

We were notified at 4.06am yesterday (Friday 23 November) and officers attended.

A JCB telehandler had been used to remove the ATM machine from the wall. Cash trays were then stolen.

The telehandler was left in the road.

Two people have been arrested in connection with this incident.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft.

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of acquire/use/possess criminal property.

Both have been released from custody but remain under investigation.

Chief Inspector Alex Reading said: “We understand people will be concerned about what happened and the impact that these types of burglary can have.

“We take all such reports seriously and officers are following several lines of enquiry.

“If you know anything about what happened, please contact us. Any information you provide could prove vital to our investigation.”
