Man arrested in VAT fraud investigation
A Co Armagh man has been arrested in connection with a suspected multi million pound VAT fraud, linked to the transport industry, after an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
HMRC officers searched a private address in County Armagh and a business address in Co Tyrone this morning where they seized computers and business records, they believe are related to the fraud.
Mike Parkinson, Assistant Director, Criminal Investigation, HMRC, said:
“HMRC takes tax fraud extremely seriously and anyone deliberately choosing to evade the taxes they owe should expect not only a heavy fine, but possibly a criminal prosecution as well. “
The man is being questioned by HMRC and investigations are continuing.
