Hövding celebrates the winter cyclists

Even as winter wraps us in a blanket of darkness, some brave cyclists keep defying the cold. Hövding wants to increase awareness of these cyclists through an exciting competition during the month of December.

In winter, it’s important to stay safe and use proper bike equipment. Dangers such as poor visibility, roads covered in slippery leaves, ice and wet snow make the use of head protection, reflectors and other safety equipment essential to saving lives.

  • -We would like to highlight and reward cyclists who brave the tough winter conditions and protect the environment by choosing bike riding as a means of transportation. The Hövding helmet is a superior head protection, and our vision is to have as many people as possible protecting themselves optimally while riding, says Hövding’s Marketing Manager Anna Katarina Skogh.

During the month of December, Hövding is planning a competition in selected cities with clues posted on Facebook. These clues will lead to a time and a location to which the first cyclists to arrive will win a Hövding helmet.

The cities in which this exciting hunt for clues will occur are Malmö, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen and London. The first clue will be posted on Facebook on the 1st of December.

Hövding - Airbag for cyclists

Hövding started out in 2005 as a master’s thesis by the two founders Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, who, at the time, were studying Industrial Design at the University of Lund.

The project resulted in the concept of an airbag helmet, which won Innovationsbron’s Ideas Grant. This kick-started the process of developing Hövding into a real product. In 2006 Hövding won the Venture Cup, after which Hövding Sweden AB was founded.

Over the years Hövding has grown from just two people with a great idea, to a NASDAQ-listed company that handle everything from development and production to marketing and sales. Today Hövding consists of a team of around 30 people, all triggered by the word impossible, and Hövding’s airbag for cyclists is available in 16 markets across Europe.

The headquarters are located in an old chocolate factory in Malmö – the sixth greatest cycling city in the world. Final assembly of Hövding is carried out in association with the Japanese Company Nihon Plast.
