Press release -

The Sun Inn retains the Team Challenge Trophy!

The 3rd LIBRIUM Games Team Challenge trophy competition kicked off in style at the Swan Hotel in Stafford last night (25/02/13) with four teams from local and not so local public houses, looking to take home the trophy.

The hosts provided an enthusiastic four person team which on the night, lacked the competing experience to pull off a first time team win. However, the only male competitor in the team, Riccardo Martinez stole the individual highest score prize and walked away with a LIBRIUM Games gift pack consisting of a LIBRIUM Lite+ game, a bottle of LIBRIUM Ale and a pint glass to consume it!

The experienced team from The Congress Inn of Longton Stoke-on-Trent looked like a promising duo, but unfortunately the pressure of competition and possibly too many beers was their downfall, finishing with a 3rd place average score of 8 which was 1 point short of getting them into the final round.

Teams from The Royal Exchange in Stone - Staffs, and current holders The Sun Inn, Stafford - Staffs, were tied on average scores of 9 points each, meaning a deciding round was in order.
The Sun Inn team consisted of only one member due to a team mate pulling out at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances, which left the weight of expectation on retaining the trophy squarely on Liam McGinlay's shoulders. The expectation wasn't misplaced though, because Liam's steady hand and persistence paid off when he secured the win against Carl Howe of the Royal Exchange who took just one chance too many!

There was a welcome midway break from the pressure of competition when The Swan Hotel provided some pizza, garlic bread and chips for the competitors.

The whole evening went very smoothly and even the odd retail sale was made. Result!

Thoughts are now on the next LIBRIUM Games Team Challenge which will hopefully be staged around the end of April with the date and venue to be announced.
