Help get teenagers in London more active through Satellite Clubs

London Sport has begun its biggest ever search for individuals, groups and clubs to get teenagers more active as Sport England Satellite Club funding becomes available for the first time in 2019.

Satellite Clubs are funded by Sport England to provide young people between 14 and 19-years-old with fun, positive experiences which reflect their likes and needs.

London Sport distributes this funding on behalf of Sport England to those helping young people become active or build regular activity habits in physical activity and sport.

In December, Sport England data showed that 2.3m children and young people nationally do not reach at least an average of 30 minutes a day.

Lorna Leach, Strategic Relationship Manager for London Sport, said:

“It is always hugely exciting to see the creative and inventive ways that groups and organisations come up with to get young people being more active.

“We’ve been running Satellite Clubs for a number of years now and it’s great to see so many teenagers get back to, or start, physical activity through this amazing programme.

“Children and young people are a major part of London Sports’ bid to make the capital the most active city in the world and Satellite Club funding fits perfectly into this strategic priority.”

Expressions of interest for becoming a Satellite Club open today (Monday 3 June) and can be made here until the deadline of 23:59 on Sunday 30 June 2019.
