Raise a Glass to Brazilians this National Cachaça Day!

If there is a time to go Brazilian – it has to be this week and we don’t mean it’s time for a wax.

That’s because this week celebrates two iconic days in Brazilian life and culture – Independence Day, which takes place on the 7^th September and National Cachaça Day or Dia National da Cachaça, which follows on the 13^th September.

While Independence Day commemorates the date Brazil declared its independence from the Portuguese crown on the 7^th September 1822, National Cachaça Day is a true celebration of a special spirit that has been entwined with Brazilian culture for over 500 years.

Cachaça is a Brazilian sugar cane distillate spirit and is one of the most consumed spirits in the world, even though only a small percentage is sold in export markets.

As culturally significant as samba, soccer and carnival, it is the backbone of the famous caipirinha and it really isn’t a Brazilian party if the cachaça isn’t flowing.

Nova Abelha

• 60 ml Abelha Cachaca Gold
• 10 ml lemon grass syrup
• 7.5 ml Falernum
• 2 dashes The Bitter Truth - Lemon bitters

Stir all thoroughly with ice. Strain into an ice-filled old-fashioned glass and garnish with a lemon zest twist.
