Explore Mid and East Antrim's industrial heritage on stunning scenic tour

Step back in time with a guided bus tour from The Heritage Hub at Carnlough Town Hall to Broughshane and Glenravel, on Saturday 10 August from 10am to 5:30pm.

The Braid valley near Broughshane was once an important site of textile making in the 19^th Century. There will be a guided tour of the Wool Tower at Raceview Mill, Broughshane to learn how wool and other textiles were once created there.

Following lunch at Raceview Mill Café, the tour moves to Glenravel and Glenariff, where local guide Donnell O’Loan retells the story of how iron ore mining developed from 1868 to 1945.

Donnell will explain how iron ore was transported to the coast for shipment, and about the lives of the miners. The Glenravel mines once had largest output of iron ore anywhere in Ireland, and today you can see how nature has largely reclaimed these former mining areas, of which only a trace remains.

The bus will return to Carnlough for 5:30pm taking in the breathtaking sights along the Coast Road.
