30-year-old Anthony Dunne sentenced for drug driving

We have welcomed the sentencing of a man for drug driving following a fatal road traffic collision in Netherley earlier this year. 

At around 12.40am on Thursday, 21 February, officers were called to reports that a Ford Mondeo had been involved in a collision with a female pedestrian in Lydieth Lea. Emergency services attended however 60-year-old Judith Rogers was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 

30-year-old Anthony Dunne of Leafield Road, Liverpool tested positive for cocaine and was charged with driving while over the prescribed limit for drugs. At Liverpool Magistrates Court yesterday, Monday, 29 July, he was disqualified from driving for 18 months, given a 100 hour Community Order, ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, and orderered to pay £170 in costs and a victim surcharge.

Roads Policing Sergeant, Phil Mitchell said: “We welcome the sentencing of Dunne and hope it serves as an example to anyone who considers using drugs before they get behind the wheel.

“To take drugs and then drive is incredibly irresponsible and reckless and puts not just your own, but other road users and pedestrians lives at risk. I would like to remind road users that any drivers involved in a collision will be breathalysed and drug tested and action will be taken should they fail those tests.”
