Appeal following incident in Liverpool

We are appealing for information following shots fired in Liverpool today, Thursday 26 September.

At around 2.30pm, a call was received reporting shots fired in the area of Smithdown Lane at the junction with Overbury Street.

Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances and at this stage, nobody has attended with any injuries. A scene is in place while officers carry out witness, forensic and CCTV enquiries and provide reassurance.

Chief Inspector Derek Riley said: "These are the very early stages of our investigation and we are appealing to anyone who saw the incident or was passing anything suspicious in the area around 2.30 this afternoon.

“Although it appears that nobody has been hurt, to fire any weapon in the street is of course incredibly reckless and we will act on all information immediately to remove those who bring weapons onto our streets. Come forward and we will do the rest."

Anyone with information can contact @MerPolCC or 101 with reference 536 or come forward anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
