Appeal for information after burglary in Walton

We are appealing for information after a man was assaulted during a burglary in Walton in the early hours of Wednesday (24 July 2019).

Emergency services were called to a house on Utting Avenue at 4.20am following a report two men had entered the house.

Once inside they threatened the occupant, a man in his 50s, demanding cash and jewellery. During the incident they assaulted him with a knife and poured boiling water over his back.

The man sustained cuts and facial injuries during the incident, as well as burns to his back, and remains in a stable condition in hospital.

The offenders, described as wearing black or dark clothes and with their faces covered, made an untidy search of the house during the incident before making off on foot.

Detective Inspector Jennie Beck: "This is a particularly nasty incident and the victim sustained numerous injuries as well being left extremely shaken.

"It must have been a very frightening ordeal for him, especially happening in his own home in the middle of the night. This type of violence is unusual and we are working hard to trace the two men responsible.

"While it was the early hours and would have been relatively quiet, we know that there is a 24-hour Asda near the house and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have been shopping, or passing by at 4.20am or earlier and saw something that in hindsight seemed suspicious.

"Any information on the incident and in particular the two men responsible could assist in our investigation. We would also ask anyone who was driving in the area at that time to come forward with any dashcam footage they may have."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police CC.
