We are appealing for information after a woman and child had a substance thrown at them as they walked along a road in Birkenhead this afternoon, Monday, 8 April.

At around 4.30pm, the woman and child were walking along Green Lane when the passenger of a passing vehicle described as a black people carrier threw an unknown substance at them out of the window. Some of the substance landed on the woman but it is not thought any landed on the child. They are both currently being checked over by paramedics however at this stage, it is not believed to be a corrosive substance.

An investigation is underway and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

Chief Inspector Peter Clark said: “This is an unprovoked attack on a woman and a child and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. The investigation is in the very early stages and we are working to determine what the liquid is but at this stage, it is not thought to be a toxic or corrosive substance.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Green Lane and may have witnessed the incident, or a vehicle matching the description of a black people carrier to please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 quoting ref. 674 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
