Appeal for information following cash in transit robbery - Speke

Detectives are appealing for information following a robbery in Speke this morning (Thursday, 18 July).

At around 9am, a security guard was outside the Post Office on Town Lane when he was approached by three men in possession of what was described as a circular saw and machetes. The men made threats to the guard before making off with the cash box. The security guard was not injured but left extremely shaken by the incident.

The first male was described as wearing a black bubble coat with red gloves, the second was described as wearing a blue bubble coat, grey trousers and blue trainers, and the third was described as wearing grey clothing.

The offenders took the cash box and reportedly left the scene in a vehicle described as a silver/grey Seat Leon. The cash box was located a short time later and has been taken for forensic examination.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate the offenders and anyone who may have information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon said: “The investigation is in its very early stages, however we are carrying out a number of enquiries in the area including viewing CCTV footage and talking to witnesses.

“It is simply unacceptable for anyone to face such an ordeal when simply carrying out their job and we are determined to find those responsible.”

Anyone with info is asked to contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting incident reference 19100388216 or @CrimestoppersUK. Any information no matter how small will be treated with the utmost confidence and could assist with our investigation.
