Appeal for information following serious assault in Bootle

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a serious assault in Bootle in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 30 March.

At around 2.55am, police and the ambulance service were called to Merton Road, close to the HSBC, to reports of a fight between a group of up to five men. Two men were found injured and have been taken to hospital for assessment of head injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries will be ongoing and officers will be in the area to speak to anyone with information.

A cordon remains in place but the road has now been reopened.

Detective Inspector Paul Parry said: "At this early stage of our investigation, we want to hear from anyone who was in the area, or may have been passing in any vehicle.

"The exact circumstances are unclear but it would have been a shocking thing to witness, so please speak to us when you can, whether you saw the fight itself or anyone running off in the vicinity. Your information could be key.

"There are a lot of businesses in the area and CCTV enquiries will be continuing but come forward with what you know and we will take positive action to identify and bring to justice those responsible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, call 101 with reference 116, or please call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
