Appeal for information following serious assault in Norris Green

Detectives are appealing for information after the serious assault of a man in Norris Green last Tuesday, 18 June.

At around 3.40pm, officers were informed by the ambulance service that a man in his 40s had been found on Wapshare Road with serious leg and arm injuries, believed to have been caused by a golf club. It was reported that the victim was walking along the road when a man appeared and attacked him. He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The suspect was challenged by a member of the public and ran off down a cut-through onto Kilrea Close, possibly making off down the loop line. He is described as white, 5ft 7in, of slim build, with blonde hair, wearing dark clothing with a hood up.

Extensive forensic, CCTV and house-to-house enquiries have been carried out and detectives want to speak to anyone with information.

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident, or has heard anything since. This was an appalling act of sustained violence which took place in daylight hours and, at this stage, we are keeping an open mind as to why it happened.

"Did you see the incident or anyone matching this description? We are confident that someone within the local community will have information, and if they come forward we will take positive action to identify those responsible and put them before the courts."

Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, call 101 with reference 19100319269 or @CrimestoppersUK anonymously on 0800 555 111.
