Appeal for witnesses after laser shone in bus driver's face in Southport

We are appealing for witnesses after a bus driver had a laser shone in his face as he drove through Southport on Tuesday 18^th June.

The 50 year-old man was driving an Arriva bus near Central Avenue and Halsall Road at around 10.25pm when unknown individuals shone green-coloured lasers into his cab. There were no passengers on board at the time.

The driver parked up nearby after suffering from dazed vision. He was unable to continue working and had to attend hospital where he was diagnosed with soft tissue damage to his eye.

Detective Inspector Cat Walsh said: "I cannot stress enough how dangerous these lasers are and to purposely shine one into someone’s face is totally irresponsible.

"I would ask motorists who were driving the area around Central Avenue and Halsall Road on Tuesday night to come forward if they saw anyone using laser lights or pens or have any information which could help our enquiries.

"Thankfully there were no passengers on board the bus at the time this happened but this incident could have had much more serious consequences."
