Appeal for witnesses following armed robbery in Wavertree

We are appealing for witnesses following reports of an armed robbery at shop in Wavertree today, Saturday 27th July.

At approximately 1.15pm two males entered the McColls Store on The Parade and made demands for a cash box from a security guard. It is believed one of the males was armed with a handgun and one with a knife.

The males then left the store and made off from the area in a silver Vauxhall Vectra car which was being driven by a third man.

The two men are described as white males, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in tall. One was wearing a black hooded top and one was wearing a grey hooded top. Both had their faces covered.

A silver car, believed to be the getaway car, was later found abandoned and set alight on Meldrum Road.

Nobody was injured during the incident but staff were left shaken by their ordeal.

Detective Inspector Matt Smith said: “I would appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity of The Parade who saw the silver Vauxhall Vectra, either before or after the robbery, to contact us.

“Similarly I would ask anyone who was driving in the area who may have captured something on dash cam footage to get in touch.

“Thankfully nobody was hurt but this was a shocking incident to have happened in the middle of the day on a busy street and I would appeal to the public to come forward with any information they have so that we can find the people responsible and bring them to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log 469 of 27th July.
