Man arrested after assault in Liverpool city centre

A man was arrested after an incident in Liverpool city centre on Friday night (27 September 2019). 

A report was received that at around 3.45am an altercation had taken place on James Street during which a man had become verbally abusive towards the driver of a car.

He then attempted to pull the driver from the vehicle, before striking him with a glass bottle. The driver got back in the vehicle and the offender used the bottle to smash the driver side window and the car was then driven away.

Officers attended and detained the man on nearby Castle Street.

A 22-year-old man from Toxteth was arrested on suspicion of common assault, criminal damage, a racially aggravated public order offence and assault of an emergency worker. He has been released under investigation and enquiries are continuing.
