Man arrested on suspicion of firearms and drugs possession in Southport

We arrested a man on suspicion of firearm and drugs possession following the execution of a search warrant in Southport yesterday (Wednesday 13 March 2019).

A man was stop checked on Lord Street in Southport shortly before 1pm and following a search, four wraps of brown powder and one wrap of white powder were recovered from a sock.

Officers assisted by the Dog Section subsequently searched a house in Southport and a quantity of suspected crack cocaine was located as well as an electric stun device and a quantity of cash.

A 51-year-old man from Southport was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Section 5 firearm and possession of a Class A controlled drug.

Detective Constable Neil Jones said: “This activity has been carried out as part of our ongoing commitment to tackling serious and organised crime and other issues affecting residents in Merseyside.

“It is always encouraging to see that arrests are being made, drugs are being seized and any type of firearm recovered.

“I hope this proactive approach sends a clear message to criminals that we will not tolerate anyone who thinks they can bring harm to the streets of Merseyside, and reassures the wider public that we are determined to make our communities safer places to live.
