Merseyside Police carry out inspection at Anfield gun club

Merseyside Police have carried out a visit to a registered gun club to ensure legally-held firearms and ammunition are being correctly and safely stored.

Firearms enquiry officers visited Atlantic Leisure Gun Club, Grundy Street, Anfield, yesterday (Thursday 20 June) to ensure all relevant legislation is being properly complied with and to establish that the standard of the organisation and membership of the club remains satisfactory.

Inspector Andrew Brabin said: “We have a responsibility for public safety and ensuring that everyone who legitimately owns a firearm or ammunition is correctly registered and abides by the legislation.

“This is not about preventing people from legally holding firearms but about ensuring firearms are correctly and safely stored and the relevant legislation is followed.

"This was not in response to any specific incident or intelligence and is part of a normal inspection regime to ensure compliance with legislation."
