Police appeal for witnesses following robbery in Liverpool in the early hours of this morning

We’re appealing for witnesses following a robbery in the Great George Square area of Liverpool in the early hours of this morning (16th April).

The incident is believed to have happened at around 1am when a 19 year old man, who was walking home from the City, was confronted by another man believed to be carrying a hammer. He pushed the victim to the ground before making off with his phone and wallet.

The attacker is described as white, in his 40s and spoke with a Liverpool accent. He was also wearing a blue jacket and was riding a pedal bike.

Detective Inspector Graeme Towndrow said “This attack was completely unprovoked and has left the victim feeling rightfully fearful for his own safety. Luckily, he only suffered minor injuries and reported this incident to us.

“I would appeal to anyone that was in the area of Great George Street or China Town to come forward with information that may help us identify the offender.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting crime ref: 19100181053.
