Replica firearm found in Wavertree following report

We have seized a replica firearm following a find in Wavertree yesterday, Monday 8 April.

At around 2.20pm, a member of the public called police after finding a firearm in bushes near to Wellington Road. Armed police attended and forensically recovered the firearm. It has been confirmed as a blank-firing pistol.

Detective Inspector Paul Speight said: "This is a convincing replica gun which, real or not, has potential to cause fear and harm within our communities when carried. Residents and businesses are safer with each weapon we remove from your streets.

"If you see weapons stored where you are, or hear information about their location, speak to us as soon as possible and we will continue to make a positive impact on gun crime across Merseyside. You can pass information in a variety of ways, either directly to police or anonymously to Crimestoppers. We will do the rest."

Anyone with information on the storage and use of firearms and other weapons can contact @MerPolCC, or @CrimestoppersUK anonymously on 0800 555 111.
