Update following RTC on East Lancashire Road

UPDATE - Following a collision in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, 27 February) on the East Lancashire Road, the female passenger of the private hire taxi has now died.

The male driver of the taxi remains in a serious condition in hospital.

A 26 year-old man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been taken into police custody where he will be questioned.

ORIGINAL - We are appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision in Croxteth this morning, Wednesday 27 February.

At around 5.10am, emergency services were called to the junction of the East Lancs Road and Stonebridge Lane following a collision between a BMW and a Ford Mondeo private hire taxi.

The taxi driver and a passenger have been taken to hospital for assessment of what are initially described as serious injuries. The driver of the BMW has been taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries.

A road closure is currently in place at the junction of East Lancs Road and Bridgehouse Lane (Vikings Landing Pub), heading out of the city. Please avoid the area and plan your journeys accordingly.
