Week of action targeting organised crime in L8 leads to arrests, seizures and disruption

Officers working in the L8 area are coming to the end of a week of action targeting suspected serious and organised criminals and other issues in the area.

During the week, warrants, open land searches and disruption activity were carried out in the area, resulting in arrests and seizures as follows

Seizure of a live 9mm round following a warrant at an address in Newstead Road.

Arrest of a 17-year-old male on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life (an incident in December), possession of criminal property and possession with intent to supply cannabis after jewellery and cannabis were seized from an address in Toxteth.Arrest of a 35-year-old man and a 21-year old man, both from Toxteth, on suspicion of money laundering following the seizure of cash, clothing, trainers and watches. The items were seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act and the men have been released under investigation as enquiries continue. Arrest and charge of 33-year-old Anthony Reed from Toxteth for breaching his Gang Injunction. Reed was arrested on Wednesday and charged after being found in possession of a mobile phone following a warrant.
Arrest of 44-year-old man from Dingle on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis after being stopped and pursued on foot to a garden on Gilbert Street, and found in a wheelie bin containing cannabis. He has been released under investigation
Arrest and charge of 34-year-old Mohamed Fleifel from Victoria Street, Liverpool City Centre. Fleifel was arrested after being sighted on a mobile phone in a Transit van on Wavertree Boulevard. Fleifel was charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent; driving without insurance and a licence; and using a mobile phone while driving. He was released on bail to appear at court in April.

A total of more than £20,000 cash and goods worth an estimated £40,000 were seized during the week of action.

A multi-agency taxi licencing operation, alongside Liverpool City Council, was also carried out on Upper Parliament Street, resulting in six suspension notices, seven defect notices and two verbal warnings being issued to taxi drivers.

Liverpool Targeted Team Inspector Kate Wilkinson said: “This action has been carried out as part of our ongoing commitment to tackling both serious and organised crime and other issues affecting residents in the L8 area. It is encouraging to see that such positive results have been achieved, including numerous arrests and the seizure of suspected proceeds of criminal activity.

“Working alongside our partners and the local community, we can continue the momentum from this week in future weeks and months, which will have a noticeable impact for residents and businesses in the area. Keep engaging with us, and we will disrupt this criminal activity.

“We’ll also continue to work alongside local authorities to carry out checks of both private hire and Hackney taxis, to ensure that they are safely and properly transporting people in the area.”
