Nectar teams up with eBay to reward British online shoppers

Launching today, savvy eBay shoppers can now bag an even better bargain by collecting Nectar points automatically on all their purchases, as the UK’s leading loyalty programme teams up with the UK’s largest online marketplace.

The new partnership will mean Nectar’s 18.5million collectors and eBay’s 17 million monthly unique users can collect Nectar points on every purchase, including successful ‘buy it now’ transactions and auction bids. By simply linking their Nectar card with their eBay account, Nectar collectors will be able to earn points on the huge range of products offered across the UK site’s 60 million live listings – from clothes and accessories, to furniture and electronics.

Previously, Nectar cardholders could collect points on their eBay transactions via Nectar eShops if they clicked through nectar.com, but loyal eBay shoppers can now collect points each time they shop at eBay.co.uk. The extended partnership means that the average Brit can now collect Nectar points on around 50% of their total household spend – including groceries, DIY, holiday bookings, household bills and petrol.

The eBay marketplace has evolved beyond just an auction site, with 65% of items that are traded globally now bought new or at a fixed price and the largest categories for UK shoppers are currently home and garden, fashion and electronics.

Customers will be able to collect Nectar points directly from eBay.co.uk from 15 October and to celebrate the launch, triple Nectar points will be available on all eBay purchases until 28 October 2012.

Jan-Pieter Lips, Managing Director of Nectar, said: “This partnership with eBay gives our 18.5 million cardholders an even easier way to collect Nectar points and get ‘something for nothing’ on their daily spend, adding to the impressive household names we already partner with such as British Gas, BP and Homebase.

“eBay is one of the most popular online shopping sites in the UK and Nectar has a fantastically engaged, savvy community of collectors who will really benefit from earning points on their purchases online. We’re delighted to be able to reward eBay shoppers for their loyalty as we continue to celebrate our tenth birthday, with exclusive points promotions planned until Christmas.”

Alex Von Schirmeister, Vice President of Marketing for eBay in Europe, said: “Half of all UK online shoppers visit eBay each month and this new partnership will allow us to reward their loyalty and keep them coming back to the site even more often.

“As we all start planning for Christmas, UK shoppers will remain value conscious. eBay has the advantage of offering customers a selection of new items from our 100 high street partners including big names in fashion and home and garden, making it easy to browse, compare prices and find that ideal gift or purchase. eBay expects a third of all items bought on the site this Christmas will be purchased via a mobile device, and mobile purchases will collect points for Nectar cardholders.”

eBay.co.uk shoppers who are not currently Nectar cardholders will be able to apply for a card via the eBay website. Transactions must be made via PayPal in order to be eligible for points.

From Monday 15 October, shoppers should visit nectar.com or ebay.co.uk for more information and exciting rewards.
