Meet the speaker - Jim Manson

Editor of Natural Products Global, Jim Manson will once again join the Natural Products Scandinavia/Nordic Organic Food Fair speaker lineup. In this exclusive Q&A Jim reveals more about what visitors can take away from his session and what trends are impacting the organic industry today.

What are the main takeaways visitors can get out of attending your session at NOFF?

On Natural Products Global we are constantly scanning hundreds of specialist and national news sources for the latest developments from organic markets worldwide. So what I’m going to try to do in my talk is to compress the key milestones of the last 12 months into a fast-paced round-up of global organic trends. On the way, I’m going to be checking in on the latest market data, the biggest commercial deals of the year, key product and consumer trends and the changing regulatory environment. I’ll also take a look at the industry’s ‘new disruptors’, who want to shape their own vision for organic – and I’ll show how they are already changing the discussion.

What trends/regulations are impacting the organic industry today globally?

Organic sits perfectly with the big direction of travel in food and farming – towards healthier and more sustainable solutions. So, there are huge opportunities for growth. But as organic becomes more mainstream, and bigger corporations (literally) buy into it, the challenge will be to preserve and develop its core values. Regulation has been enormously important for organic, but there is also a view that when it is too prescriptive it can be a straight-jacket. It’s a very live issue, and one I’ll be taking a look at.

Why is it important to support the organic movement?

With its compelling ‘healthy body, healthy planet’ proposition, organic food and agriculture has such an important contribution to make. We face such huge challenges in the world – a global epidemic ‘lifestyle disease’, and desperately urgent need for practical climate change mitigation to name two – and organic is a tested and proven alternative to unstainable, chemical-based farming.

What are you looking forward to most about attending NOFF?

I love this show! It has a great vibe, and it feels like a very engaged and well-informed community.Scandinavia also has a very distinctive organic offer, and it’s great to meet the people behind the products and brands.

Jim Manson will be speaking in the Organic Theatre at 12 - 12.45pm on Thursday 15 November. To apply for a free trade ticket, please visit www.eventdata.co.uk/Forms/Default.aspx?FormRef=NPSB8Press.
