Exciting new project launched to help young farmers in Kenya earn an income they can rely on

Practical Action has been awarded a grant of €6.4 million by the IKEA Foundation to help smallholder farmers in Kenya.

The project will work with 6,000 young farmers in Kisumu and Homa Bay to help them earn a decent income from sustainable farming and agricultural businesses. Through improving access to knowledge, skills and resources, the project has the potential to further impact the lives of more than 80,000 young people.

Smallholder farmers face many challenges. They struggle to access fertile land to grow their crops and don’t have the money to invest in seeds and equipment. Poor farming conditions lead to harvests that are too small to enable farmers to feed their families and sell their produce for income.

This project will support smallholder farmers to achieve a decent standard of living, while protecting the environment and building on the resources that they already have.
