Practical Action wins prestigious sector award for work on waste management in Bangladesh
Practical Action has been announced as the winner of the BOND collaboration award, which recognises the importance of effective relationships and collaborations across the international development sector to create transformational change on a global level.
Practical Action’s entry ‘We need to talk about poo’ beat strong competition from Christian Aid and Avert.
It focuses on how millions of people in slums are set to benefit from the organisation’s collaboration with Bangladeshi communities, local and national government and international bodies to transform the management of human waste in slums around the world. Practical Action director, Rachel Hudson said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised for our approach to fostering collaboration. Big change happens through genuine collaboration, mixed with doses of ingenuity and sharing of knowledge. This is how we work to help people find solutions to some of the world’s toughest problems and it’s great that our work to improve sanitation in slums has been recognised for this. ”
Practical Action’s work on human waste management in Bangladesh is part of a broader effort to make city slums cleaner, healthier places for people to live and work, with safe water for drinking and washing and refuse and sewage safely and sustainable collected and processed.
The winner was announced on Monday 18th March at the BOND annual conference in London.
