International development agency launches unique fundraising partnership with Grundfos

International development agency Practical Action is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with Grundfos – a global leader in pump solutions and water technology

The agency is set to receive up to 25,000 Euros through a unique fundraising initiative as part of the 2017 Women’s Handball World Championship. During the championship which takes place from 1st-17th December in Germany, for every 6th and 13th goal that is scored, an amount will be donated to one of four different projects run by Practical Action and WaterAid.

The UN has created 17 goals for sustainable development – and Grundfos is particularly focused on goal 6 and 13. Goal 6 is about providing clean water and sanitation for all, and goal 13 is about combatting climate change, i.e. by supporting energy efficient solutions and mindsets.

The Practical Action projects are based in Kenya and Latin America and work to help mitigate the effects of climate change for some of the world’s poorest people.

Kim Nøhr Skibsted, Group Vice President at Grundfos said: “In cooperation with both Practical Action and WaterAid we have chosen four projects that support the UN goals, and randomly assigned each national team with two projects. Every time a team scores the first goal 6 or 13 in a match, a sum of money is donated to the project assigned to that team. In total, we will donate more than €50,000 throughout the tournament.”

Paul Smith Lomas, Practical Action CEO said: “We’ve enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Grundfos and we’re delighted that they’ve chosen to support us again with this great initiative. We can’t wait for the tournament to begin.”

Practical Action uses technology to challenge poverty in developing countries.

Our strength is our approach. We find out what people are doing and help them to do it better. Through technology we enable poor communities to build on their skills and knowledge to produce sustainable and practical solutions - transforming their lives forever and protecting the world around them.

By doing this each year we help around a million people break out of the cycle of poverty ... for good.
