THE SCANERS: French ‘anomalous synth-punk threat’ preps debut LP | Dirty Water Records
On December 16, 2017 the Pentagon officially confirmed that there was, in fact, a $22 million US government program to collect and analyze “anomalous aerospace threats” – government-speak for UFOs and aliens.
Over the water in Lyon, France The Scaners didn’t need any official acknowledgment of this, as it would appear from the band’s eponymous debut LP that they’ve had first-hand knowledge all along. And they might, perhaps, have been co-conspirators, riding shotgun in various spacecraft, playing a sci-fi synth-punk rock game of cat and mouse and somehow evading the US government’s “Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program”
Now it’s 2018 and the crackpots and tin-foil hat brigade have had the last laugh. The Scaners’ time is now! They’re ready to launch their sonic full-scale abduction of planet Earth.
With extraterrestrial titles like “Abduction”, “No Place In Space”, “We Want To Talk To Your Leader” and “Flying Fuck”, this album is certainly not from the traditional, third-dimensional garage-punk reality. Yes, it has the mainframe DNA of The Ramones and The Dickies, but draws heavily on classic fourth-dimensional synth spirits like Devo and Suicide, coupled with modern acolytes such as The Spits and Useless Eaters.
The group, in their short tenure, have shared the stage with the likes of The New Bomb Turks, UK Subs, Frustration, Ausmuteants, Zeke, JC Satan, Los Pepes, Les Lullies, and Royal Headache.

The Dirty Water Club started in October 1996 in the Tufnell Park neighbourhood of north London, at a venue called The Boston. The club's name is derived from The Standells' 1966 hit 'Dirty Water' which glorifies the US city of Boston, Massachusetts.
Past performers have included The White Stripes (voted by Q Magazine as one of the top 10 gigs of all time, Mojo one of the top 30 and Kerrang one of the top 100!), The Gories, Country Teasers, Black Lips, NOBUNNY, Kid Congo Powers, The Fleshtones, Billy Childish, Radio Birdman, The Dirtbombs, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, The 5.6.7.8's, The Horrors and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to name just a few.
