Press release -

Art deco refurbishment for Potters Bar station cafe

Potters Bar station’s independent coffee outlet Chuggs has undergone a £120,000 art deco refit.

The refurbishment, split between train operator Great Northern, and David Sampson, owner of Chuggs, replaced high stools and round tables with a cosy, wood panelled enclosure and comfy sofas, creating a much-improved drinking-in experience to compliment the great coffee and tasty treats for commuters on the go.

Chuggs retains its most popular milkshakes and introduces a new great value offer with a kids’ ‘Chuggaccino’, which is free.

Potters Bar station is also due to benefit from a wider makeover during the next couple of months to improve the look of the station concourse and refit the concourse’s other retail unit.

The stylish new look has already picked up some positive praise on social media: Luisa Zissman, star of The Apprentice, posted on Instagram “Loving the new @chuggs_coffee at potters bar train station! Congrats on a beautiful fit out and refurb ❤️ #coffee #londonbound”

Station Manager James Gillett said: “We are delighted with the result of the refit. David had a great vision for the space making it inviting both for people who want to linger and for passengers picking up a quick cup and I think we all agree that together we have brought the vision to life.”

David Sampson, owner of Chuggs, said: “I had a good business with the kiosk in this space but I wanted to improve the offer, particularly for people who might want to hang around for a bit waiting for their train or working and I’m a big fan of art deco design. To hear the amazing feedback from customers and on social media has been fantastic, like the icing on one of our delicious cakes!”
