Press release -

Great Northern and the community host celebrations for Her Majesty at Downham Market

Downham Market station and the local WI have joined forces to organise a station event tomorrow (Friday, 10 June) to help celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Millions of people will be celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday up and down the country and to support this we will be joining in with the railway industry’s celebrations, known as “Station to Station”.

Over 90 railway stations across the land are joining together to provide a stage to celebrate this important milestone birthday, and offering an array of activities as part of the nationwide celebrations.

The event at Downham Market will run from 10am, starting with a royal makeover of station flowerbeds to turn them red, white and blue! This is followed by a buffet provided by Great Northern.

Great Northern’s Passenger Services Director, Keith Jipps, said: “We are always working to put our stations at the heart of the communities they serve. This is another great opportunity for people to come down to the station and join in with something that will be quite unique. It’s wonderful to see our staff and a local good cause joining together to celebrate this once in a lifetime event and we hope lots of people will get involved.”

The official website www.queenscelebration.com provides more information on what’s planned at stations throughout the weekend.
