Six new destinations ahead of record breaking Easter

London Luton Airport (LLA) has announced the launch of six new destinations ahead of the Easter weekend as the airport continues to grow its offering to passengers.

Travellers can now fly to Palermo (Italy), Genoa (Italy), Reus (Spain) and Dalaman (Turkey) with easyJet while Wizz Air have launched routes between LLA and Bratislava (Slovakia) and Bari (Italy).

The new routes come as the popularity of city breaks continues to rise. Over the Easter weekend, the top five most popular destinations from LLA will be:

  • Amsterdam (Netherlands)
  • Budapest (Hungary)
  • Barcelona (Spain)
  • Geneva (Switzerland)
  • Faro (Portugal)

A record-breaking Easter

A total of 98,940 passengers will fly from LLA between Friday 30 March and Monday 2 April. Good Friday is expected to be the busiest day of the weekend, with over 25,000 passengers departing from the airport.

Transforming the airport

Passengers travelling through LLA this Easter will benefit from the airport’s £160 million transformation project. A host of new shops and restaurants have recently opened, including a new Hugo Boss store last week. Other high street names which have opened their doors include Oliver Bonas, opening its first airport store in the UK, Ted Baker, Fiorelli and Kurt Geiger.

Building on the improvements already made, LLA’s newly-extended terminal will officially open later this year. As well as being able to choose from a greater variety of shops and restaurants, passengers will also have access to more seating and eight new boarding gates.

In addition, work is shortly due to begin on a light rail system, delivered by Luton Borough Council, which will reduce the journey time between central London and the airport to just 30 minutes. The 24-hour MPT will connect Luton Airport Parkway station with the terminal, replacing the current shuttle bus.

Nick Barton, CEO of LLA, said: “As travellers seek new places to explore over the Easter weekend, we’re working alongside our airlines to give them a wider choice of destinations than ever before. But a great holiday starts before you get on a plane, which is why we’re working hard to improve all aspects our passengers’ journeys. This includes making LLA easier to reach and making passengers’ experience while in the airport more convenient and relaxing.”

During busy times, we advise passengers to make sure they are prepared for security and familiar with the rules surrounding liquids in hand luggage. LLA’s tips for a stress-free Easter getaway can be found here: https://www.london-luton.co.uk/inside-lla/be-security-smart
