Perfect match: Colour combinations in white and blue

Rosenthal Landscape/Design: Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola is one of today’s most famous, internationally popular designers. For the Rosenthal studio-line Patricia Urquiola has designed a dining concept, which meets the standards of ground-breaking product design with its language form and excellent craftsmanship. A new design milestone has been realised following two years of development and in collaboration with Patricia Urquiola, the creative design team and technicians at Rosenthal. Patricia Urquiola’s design combines western tabletop culture with the oriental tradition of spontaneous and versatile tableware usage. The characteristic design of the dining concept comes to the fore on the plates with their relinquished bordersparticularly well. Different three-dimensional patterns lend the porcelain series an extra dimension and emphasise its high quality. “These patterns are the result of an archaeological-like exploration through our cultural memories. The result is a new interpretation using a modern digitalized language.” The seven different reliefs on porcelain elements are sometimes arranged asymmetrically, sometimes covering the entire surface. Sometimes the pattern breaks out across the rim, reshaping its line.As such, this individual design and formal feature allow versatile alternative combinations. The transparency, a major feature of high quality porcelain products, is particularly evident in Urquiola’s design and reflects Rosenthal’s many years of competence and experience. The fine relief structure emphasises the shimmering effect of the wafer-thin porcelain.

Rosenthal Mesh Line Aqua/decoration design: Rosenthal Creative Centre

If there was ever a word for increase in variety, it would probably be Mesh. This is because Rosenthal has designed another harmonious pattern for the uncomplicated series featuring a delicate mesh relief and endless combination options with round, angular, oval and square elements and trendy colour glazes in aqua, cream and walnut. The design introduces the delicate mesh structure to the porcelain surfaces in the form of colourful printed lines in aqua, cream and walnut. Both the strict geometry and the relaxed linear structure created by the crossovers stand in perfect harmony with the glazed pieces of the Mesh collection and create a striking contrast of white and coloured surfaces. Mesh Line therefore offers even more combination options – whether you are going on a picnic, enjoying a relaxed family brunch or serving haute cuisine – and is available for all flatware in the series designed by Spanish industrial designer Gemma Bernal.

Rosenthal Francis Carreau Bleu/decoration design: Rosenthal Creative Centre

Historical references and modern elegance come together in the new Carreau pattern on the Francis design to create a classically luxurious yet simple-looking table arrangement. The interplay of shaded and unshaded checked areas in royal blue and delightful beige with a delicate gold outline produces a kaleidoscopic colour effect. Subtle white surfaces bring a calming and airy feeling to the design and create an exciting contrast between light and dark, which is wonderfully complemented by the clear lines of the Francis design.

Rosenthal Hot Spots/design: Christine Rathmann

The Hot Spots vase series is like a dance of colours. The individual features on the surfaces of the vase appear to move and alter their effect depending on the light level and the viewing angle. Designer Christine Rathmann has skilfully combined a wide range of on-trend colours to form harmonious colour gradations, which are constantly creating new moods and inviting the beholder to use a variety of arrangements. All this indicates that the vases are not only intended for displaying plants and flowers. They are also a display in themselves – as colourful and diverse as life itself. The technically challenging spraying technique makes every porcelain vase unique.

Rosenthal Swinging Vases/design: Silke Decker

When the Hamburg-based designer Silke Decker sketched the first designs for her Swinging Vases vase series, she was imagining delicate grasses and flowers gently swaying in the wind. This same effect is created by her teardrop-shaped vases made of delicate glass, which move effortlessly once triggered, perfectly round and pleasantly smooth. This impression is amplified by the splendid, shimmering surfaces and the elegant mix of transparent and opaque colours. The Swinging Vases are available in three sizes and eight colours.
