FIS Alpine Ski World Cup races 12 - 13 Dec and Åre Ski Opening
Sweden and Åre have been allotted races in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup on 12 to 13 Dec, 2015 from the International Ski Federation (FIS). Åre will arrange the 99:th and the 100 race which the OC will celebrate together with the FIS family. The scheduled competitions will be held on Saturday12 December with Giant slalom for ladies and Sunday 13 December – Lucia Day- with ladies’ slalom. The Swedish Ski Team will come from the FIS World Cup events in the US and Canada directly to Åre for some training and relaxing moments. Åre has also the official season opening weekend, Åre Ski Opening, with free Ski- and Snowboardtest.
-This year it is a special season opening weekend with both the traditional ski and snowboard test and the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. It will be a remembered weekend with historical World Cup competitions, an entertaining parallel slalom race and, as usual, a party scene that attracts all ski enthusiasts, both local and from abroad, says Niclas Sjögren Berg, Destination Manager SkiStar Åre.
- Åre’s organising committee is delighted to arrange the 99 and 100 races and is now preparing for upcoming hectic weeks. We are also hoping for a good crowd of spectators since the event coincides with the official season opening weekend, Åre Ski Opening, says Nalle Hansson, Race & Arena Manager, World Cup Åre.
This is Åre´s last World Cup Competitions before the World Cup Finals 2018, then all the light will be held towards the 2019 Alpine World Championships in Åre. Another important thing is also the Junior World Championships, which will be organized in Åre 2017.
