Stroke Association statement on CCG Outcomes Indicator Set December 2014
The Health and Social Care Information Centre published data on the performance of every CCG in England on three stroke indicators.
They released a press release with the publication of the results saying that “Stroke treatment in England varies widely by location”. It highlights variations in access to stroke units within 4 hours and in people spending 90% of their time on a stroke unit (as low as 66% in some CCGs)

Nikki Hill, Deputy Director of External Affairs at the Stroke Association -
“While there have been improvements in stroke care in the UK, this report indicates there is still an unacceptable level of variation in different parts of England. Stroke is a medical emergency and evidence shows that people treated on stroke units are more likely to have access to life saving drugs, better care and make better recoveries. We hope that this report will help CCGs understand the reasons for these variations and consider how to organise their services to provide the best standard of care everywhere.”
